In Japan, especially around Tokyo, train and subway are useful.


When you arrive at Narita international airport, JR line is useful to go to Chiba university. You can get to Chiba station using Narita line of JR line, and then you have to change to Sobu line (local service). Nishi-Chiba station is the first stop, and Chiba university is just next to the station. In Narita airport, there is also the Keisei line's station, so please be careful to choose JR.

If you will use a train manytimes, prepaid card "Suica" is useful. You can charge money to Suica and pass automatic ticket gate using Suica. Suica can used in almost all trains, subways and JR EAST bus. The Suica can be purchased in major JR EAST stations at Multifunction Ticket Vending Machines, JR Ticket Offices (Midori-no-madoguchi) and Travel Service Centers for 500 yen.

When you go through the gate, please touch Suica on the panel.

Bus

How to use a bus

• Enter the bus at the rear, take a ticket from the machines on either side of the door
• An electronic display by the driver shows the next stop and fares (English is not always catered for so familiarise yourself with your destination Kanji)
• To determine your fare match the number on your ticket to the display, your fare in ¥ is displayed under your ticket number and increases the longer you ride the bus
• When your stop is approaching, press the illuminated yellow とまります button to alert the driver, these can be found on the backs of seats or along the walls
• Check your final fare on the display, if you do not have the correct change use the change machine by the driver to change notes into coins
• As you leave the bus drop your ticket and the correct fare into the transparent box by the driver

You can also use Suica when you use a bus. When you get on the bus, touch Suica on the panel. When you get off, touch Suica on the panel near the front door.
